PICTURES HELPING PEOPLE
Hurricane Harvey Hits Houston
In 2017, Hurricane Harvey devastated parts of Texas and Louisiana. As her family discussed the impact, 4-year-old Caragh said, “I want to give away my pictures to get diapers for the little babies whose houses got hurt.”
Humbled by her generous heart, her parents put a few of her drawings online and shared her story. They sold within a few hours. They dug up more art they had around the house and listed it, all of it selling. The preschoolers’ story raised over $600 in two days.
She purchased the diapers wholesale and donated them to a student group from the University of Texas at Arlington who would be driving to Houston. The school paper showed up and shared a story about her efforts.
Afterward, she asked, “Who do we help next?”.
Caragh, now ten years old, has continued to sell her art to help others, having raised over $8,000 through her art auctions on her Facebook page, Pictures Helping People.
Hand Turkeys For Thanksgiving
Although Caragh has done numerous one-off fundraisers for different charities and causes, every year she continues to do her Hand Turkeys for Thanksgiving fundraiser.
In November of 2017, Caragh said “Can we give away my pictures to help the people who don’t have mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving?”
This started an annual tradition of creating a stockpile of art (including hand turkeys) and selling them in the month of November. The money raised is used to buy whatever Mission Arlington needs most to make their Thanksgiving baskets to deliver to families in need.
Since 2017, she has raised $2,426 for Thanksgiving.
